Sextortion Scam, $10K Bitcoin Fraud Top Lower Makefield Crimes

LOWER MAKEFIELD TOWNSHIP, PA —One crime involved a sextortion scam. And three fraud cases led to victims transferring over $20,000. Then there was vandalism in which a vehicle had eggs, milk, salad dressing and pretzels thrown at it.

Those were among the most recent criminal incidents the Lower Makefield Township Police Department released in its police blotter on Friday.

They include:

Fraud —1300 block of Brentwood Rd. reported at 6:55 p.m., Nov. 17. The complainant reported falling victim to a sextortion scam and sent $460 to an unknown person via Venmo.

Theft —1300 block of Violetwood Ct. reported at 2:56 p.m., Nov. 16. The complainant reported the theft of a package delivered to the residence.

Fraud —200 block of Hickory Rd. reported at 9:25 a.m. The complainant reported paying a company $7,500 to install a generator, but they failed to do the work or return calls.

Public Drunkenness —600 block of Heacock Rd. reported at 11:08 a.m. Police responded to the report of a man passed out on the ground at the location. Further investigation led to the 56-year-old Lower Makefield Township man being cited for public drunkenness.

Fraud —500 block of Big Oak Rd. reported at 4:52 p.m. The complainant reported a total of $3,0833.62 in Western Union transfers using their bank card.

Identity Theft —800 block of Manor Ln. reported at 8:57 p.m. The complainant reported two Bank of America credit cards were opened in their name.

Driving Under the Influence —1700 block of Yardley-Langhorne Rd. reported at 5:53 p.m. Police responded to the report of a two-vehicle accident at the location. Further investigation led to the arrest of the 61-year-old Philadelphia woman for driving under the influence.

Vandalism —900 block of Hamilton Dr. reported at 10:17 p.m. The complainant reported unknown person(s) threw eggs, milk, salad dressing and pretzels on their vehicle.

Fraud —1400 block of Brookfield Rd. reported at 3:19 a.m. The complainant reported receiving an email regarding their Geek Squad service plan. They then transferred $10,000 into Bitcoin and sent it.

Theft —100 block of Pine Ln. reported at 9:25 a.m. The complainant reported a gift card fraud after realizing this was a scam after purchasing but prior to providing information to the unknown subject.
